and bishops will bless anything
with their mystical, testosteronal powers -
guns, ships, tanks, armies, abattoirs,
nuclear warheads -
but not contraceptives.
Not tramps.
In the past
bells were not just blessed
but could be baptised. For all we know
there may have been quiet blessings
of concentration camps.
